Earlier this summer, our associate Rhian Horton, alongside Asylum's Mackenzie Regent and JustWorks Melissa Klassman and Stephanie LaCava, M.Ed., had the privilege of bringing together 20 incredible women in blended ops and investing roles at NYC venture firms. While women make up only ~15% of all VC check-writers, they hold a majority of non-investment positions, often falling into the essential role of ‘doing a little bit of it all.’ We will continue to foster women-led venture communities that recognize the effort, knowledge, and leadership that often exists in the background. This means more than just increasing numbers; it’s finding ways to build deep networks, offer mentorship, provide technical assistance, and support the growth of women investors and operators at every stage. Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of hosting a wonderful friend, Dan Shipper, Founder of Every Inc., for a conversation on AI in writing, personal productivity, and the broader consumer landscape. Some takeaways: ? Founders should provide structured opportunities for team members to experiment with AI tools without the pressure of falling behind in their regular duties. This approach encourages experimentation and exploration. ?? In most organizations, there's a pattern: 10% of employees are early adopters, eager to try new technologies; 30-40% will engage once the tools are validated; and the remainder prefer to use established processes. The strategy is to identify the early adopters, understand their use cases, and develop standardized processes that can be adopted company-wide. ? AI significantly enhances our ability to process and synthesize information. It's particularly effective for digesting complex or technical material and distilling it into more manageable insights or for addressing interpersonal challenges by helping structure thoughts and identify actionable steps. ?? Claude and ChatGPT demonstrate a remarkable ability to understand and communicate across various contexts. They can be leveraged to bridge communication gaps between different locations, industries, and age groups, acting as universal translators of ideas and perspectives. AI tools like Claude and ChatGPT can be invaluable assets for startup teams.
