As we wrap up Women’s History Month, join us in celebrating another important historical figure in the labor movement: Margaret Hinchey. Hinchey, an Irish immigrant and laundry worker, became a fierce advocate for fair wages, better conditions, and women’s rights in the early 1900s. She organized as part of the Women’s Trade Union League, spoke out against exploitation, and fought for the right to vote—knowing that workers’ rights and women’s rights go hand in hand. Thanks for following along this month! Learn more about Women of Steel and get involved here: https://lnkd.in/efvUNWqQ

  • Workers around the globe are stronger when we stand together in solidarity. ?? The Solidarity Center a member of our AFL-CIO union family, stands with working people around the world who face some of the toughest conditions – forced labor, violence and union-busting. Their work is driven solely by the labor movement's shared mission: ensuring that all workers have the right to organize, earn fair wages and work with dignity. • On this day in 1911, the infamous Triangle Shirtwaist Fire broke out on the factory’s top floors, beyond the reach of firefighters’ ladders. Workers were trapped inside because the owners had locked the fire escape exits, ultimately left with no choice but to jump to their deaths. In just 30 minutes, the fire was over, and 146 of the 500 workers—mostly young women—had perished. For some, like Frances Perkins, who would go on to become U.S. Secretary of Labor, witnessing the tragedy ignited a lifelong fight for workers’ rights. This disaster is a powerful reminder of why OSHA is essential to protecting workers' health and safety—and why unions will never stop fighting for those protections.

  • This Women’s History Month, we’re honoring trailblazing women in the labor movement, past and present. Women of Steel member Mary Marta Briones-Bird of USW Local 1998 has spent over two decades fighting for pay equity at the University of Toronto, ensuring thousands of workers receive fair wages. Her leadership has helped secure historic wage adjustments, proving that collective action drives real change. Read more of her story: https://lnkd.in/eHiZRBaR

  • To celebrate Women’s History Month, we are highlighting leaders in the labor movement – past and present. Today we are honoring Hattie Canty – a hotel maid turned powerful labor leader. As president of Culinary Workers Union Local 226, she spearheaded one of the longest, most successful strikes in U.S. history, fighting for fair wages and dignity for all workers. Her legacy reminds us that the labor movement is strongest when we stand together.
