?? Big news today from Cleveland-Cliffs. The company plans to idle steelmaking at its Dearborn Works in Michigan because of “the current reality of weak automotive production.” ?? The steelmaker said it hopes to resume production if President Trump’s trade policies result in automotive production being “re-shored”.? ?? The idling at Dearborn comes after Cliffs said would also idle parts of its iron ore operations in Minnesota. As part of our Steel 101 Workshop offerings, we provide students with the unique opportunity to experience a live mill tour. For our recent class in Charleston, S.C., we were fortunate to visit Nucor Steel Berkeley, and it was truly an unforgettable experience-- one that our students are still raving about. Nestled on 8,000 acres of land, Nucor Steel Berkeley has dedicated an impressive 5,000 acres to a wildlife conservation easement. The facility employs nearly 1,000 dedicated individuals, and it was clear from every interaction that Nucor is more than just a workplace – it's a community. Across the board, employees shared a common sentiment: Nucor is a company that genuinely values, empowers, and uplifts its team members. During our nearly three-hour tour, we explored every corner of the mill, including the hot mill, cold mill, bar mill, galvanizing line, and melt shop. One of the most remarkable highlights was the rare opportunity for students to witness two charge cycles – a sight not often seen. Watching the metal being melted with lightning-like intensity was nothing short of awe-inspiring. A huge thank you to Nucor Corporation for welcoming our students and providing such an incredible learning experience! We can't wait for the next tour. We had folks in analysis, trading, customer service, sales, HR, marketing, operations, supply chain, purchasing, and much more.
