Chandigarh is taking a big leap in solar energy! The UT is set to install North India's largest floating solar power plant—a 4 MW project at Sector 39 water works—by the next financial year. This is part of Chandigarh’s ambitious plan to add 8 MWp solar capacity in 2025-26. Floating solar plants not only generate renewable energy but also conserve water by reducing evaporation. With an existing 5 MWp from floating solar plants and another 3 MWp nearing completion, Chandigarh is leading the way in solar adoption. The city has already installed 89.689 MWp across 10,234 government and private buildings, making it the first in India to cover all government buildings with rooftop solar. Plans are also underway to explore solar installations in parks and cycle tracks, further expanding Chandigarh’s green footprint. #solarpower #floatingsolar #sustainability #renewableenergy #solarpowerplant #solarpowered

Seven top research universities have joined forces to advance the California Solar Canal Initiative (CSCI), a groundbreaking effort to deploy solar panels over the state’s canal network. A University of California, Merced study suggests that covering 4,000 miles of canals with solar panels could generate power for 2 million homes, conserve water for 2 million people, and save 50,000 acres of land. Led by USC Dornsife Public Exchange and Solar AquaGrid, CSCI will provide critical data to government agencies, utilities, and communities to accelerate large-scale solar canal deployment. With support from California’s water and energy agencies, this initiative aligns with the state’s 2045 clean energy goals and 30×30 conservation commitment. By integrating clean energy, water conservation, and land optimization, CSCI represents a bold step toward a more resilient and sustainable California. #solar #cleanenergy #waterconservation #sustainability #solarpowered #solarinstallation #cleanenergy

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is advancing up to $43 million in Microgrid Incentive Program (MIP) funding for nine new community-driven microgrids across Humboldt, Lake, and Marin counties. These projects will enhance energy resilience for nearly 9,000 customers, including 3,600 vulnerable individuals. Designed to power essential services like hospitals, fire stations, schools, and tribal communities, the microgrids integrate solar, battery storage, hydroelectric, and biomass energy to support cleaner, more reliable power. With $34 million dedicated to energy generation and infrastructure costs, and up to $1 million per project for interconnection, this initiative strengthens California’s push for low-carbon, resilient energy solutions. PG&E continues to expand its microgrid network, reinforcing energy security for communities most vulnerable to outages. #cleanenergy #microgrids #resilience #sustainability #renewableenergy

The India Solar Manufacturing Association (ISMA) has urged the government to include solar cells, modules, and key raw materials in the proposed India-US free trade agreement to eliminate import duties. This move could boost India's solar manufacturing capabilities by enabling duty-free imports of polysilicon, ingots, wafers, capital goods, and equipment from the US. By reducing costs and easing access to high-quality materials, this agreement could strengthen India's solar supply chain and accelerate its transition to a global solar manufacturing hub. ISMA highlights that a well-structured trade deal, alongside strong policy support and incentives, could mark a turning point for India's clean energy ambitions. Could zero-duty trade be the key to unlocking India's solar manufacturing potential?
