#WeChamps | On October 3-4, the Professional Women’s Network PWN Romania hosted a peer-learning and networking event that brought together women leaders from #Romania, #Moldova, and #Azerbaijan. This initiative was part of CIPE's project "Strengthening the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem by Networking Regional Women’s Chambers of Commerce and Business Associations" (WE-Champs), funded by the U.S. Department of State - Secretary's Office of Global Women's Issues. Over two days, participants discussed the challenges women face in advancing to leadership roles and explored strategies to overcome these barriers. They also learned from PWN Romania’s experience in creating sustainable programs and building partnerships. On the first day, four PWN Romania members shared stories and strategies, providing actionable insights and emphasizing the importance of networking for women’s professional growth. On the second day, representatives from the Association of Women Entrepreneurs AFAM Moldova and the Support to Women’s Development and Education Public Union (SWDE) from Azerbaijan explored PWN Romania’s successful approaches to member engagement, leadership programs, and strategic partnerships. This cross-border collaboration highlighted the power of peer learning to drive meaningful change. Grateful to Minister Roccella and the city of Matera for their hospitality and the tour of their historic city. During the ministerial meeting, Principal Deputy Katrina Fotovat highlighted the Global Partnership, the United States Strategy to Prevent and Respond to GBV Globally, and the 30th anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act. She also discussed our contributions to global initiatives on care and women’s entrepreneurship, such as the Invest in Childcare Initiative and We-Fi.

Our recent discussions underscored the necessity of dismantling barriers to economic participation, with care needs identified as significant structural barriers. The U.S. Government proudly announced over $60M in new commitments during #UNGA79 for #WomenLEAD, increasing the initiative total to over $900M. This effort aims to advance women's political participation globally. We also announced the launch of the SWIFT project to support women leaders experiencing tech-facilitated gender-based violence. Yesterday, Search for Common Ground, in partnership with U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan and the Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues hosted a pivotal discussion on "Catalyzing Civilian Sudanese Women’s Leadership" at the Clinton Global Initiative?with Sudanese women leaders and stakeholders?on global support for peace in Sudan. Ambassador-at-Large Beth Van Schaack also spoke to participants about the importance of accountability and justice for atrocities committed against women and others affected by the war.?#SudanWomenLead #UNGA79 The conversation built on the impactful engagement of Sudanese women in the Switzerland ALPS process, highlighting their role in ongoing local initiatives?to advance a civilian political transition.
