What would you add to this list?
In the last week or so, I had someone ask me for a book about entrepreneurial ecosystem building. He asked - what should I read to understand what you are talking about. There are some good ones to recommend - Ian Hathaway and Brad Feld wrote The Startup Community Way and Startup Communities (only Feld), The Rainforest by Victor W. Hwang, and maybe even the Lean Startup by Eric Ries or Zero to One by Peter Thiel. But for my money, the best concept to consider is comparative advange. What are the unique things that lie at the soul of your community? What are the things that you have that others don't. The best thing to read (IMO) on this is Clusters and the New Economics of Competition by Michael Porter. I think it succinctly explains some critical things about economic development, humbly identifying strengths, and being willing to test your understanding against quantitative data. Most ecosystem weavers (including me) don't have the courage to say - "no, I don't think that's right." This gives you the means to make a succinct, salient argument when necessary. What would you recommend startup ecosystem builders read? What about startup founders? [And I'd ask that you not recommend your own writings.] https://lnkd.in/gsWSsfsi
