Everyone is always wondering what that point is and how you use it! This video shows my favorite use of this tool, to pick up hole locations. Works great in conjunction with an indicator, it will get you close enough, typically I find within about .005". In most cases for tapping, that is more than suitable. Of course, an The L.S. Starrett Company 827B is my go-to!
