We’re excited to celebrate the ordination of Chaplain Chad, affirming his call to serve those facing homelessness, addiction, and despair. His journey from Milwaukee’s east side to Charleston has been a blessing to our guests, as he serves with the joy of the Lord and a compassionate heart. During his installation, Rev. Dr. Marion Platt charged Chad with these words: "Meet people where they are, but don’t leave them there. Be bold in truth, but gentle in love. And never forget the power of persistence—fueled by God’s grace, it will make the difference." At Star Gospel Mission, we stand with survivors of domestic violence and believe in the power of community to bring hope and healing. Every year, millions of people, including 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men, endure severe intimate partner violence (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV). Domestic violence impacts individuals and families across all walks of life. What can we do? Raise Awareness: Speak up if you suspect someone may be experiencing abuse, and help them find safety and support. Support Shelters: Consider giving your time or resources to organizations that provide life-saving services to survivors. Educate Yourself and Others: Learn the warning signs and share this knowledge to help break the silence. Over one million children and youth experiencing homelessness are enrolled in public schools in the United States. They face many educational challenges due to high mobility, poverty, and trauma. The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (McKinney-Vento Act) is in place to remove barriers to attending school and receiving supportive services. The McKinney-Vento Act defines homelessness as children and youth who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. This can mean living in shelters, motels, or even sharing housing due to hardship. Some are in cars, parks, abandoned buildings or substandard housing, without a stable place to sleep.? When organizations like Star Gospel Mission can provide support services, like transitional housing, these students have a better and brighter chance of success.? 3 Days Until World Homeless Day Homelessness can deeply affect K-12 students, disrupting their education and emotional well-being. These children face attendance issues, lower academic performance, and heightened anxiety, often without the basic necessities needed for success. School-based support services and partnerships with local shelters are essential in helping these students thrive.
