Google has recently showcased an advanced prototype of "Project Starline," a technology facilitating 3D holographic remote conversations . The specifics of its practical applications are currently unclear, yet it signifies an intriguing step forward. It enables users to concentrate on their conversation partner instead of the device, preserving eye contact even from afar.
Although it's evident that the technology needs time to mature, becoming more compact, affordable, and refined along the way, the fact that such technology now exists is an intriguing development.
And one more thing: last week we had an exciting live Q&A about AI's role in drug discovery and design with Szabolcs Nagy from Turbine, you can rewatch the recording here .
Google introduced "Project Starline" which makes a virtual call feel like a one-on-one conversation in 2021 and now they came up with a simpler prototype. We have all been talking to each other on a screen while actually looking into a camera. Especially in a doctor-patient meeting, it doesn't help build trust and real relationships as we are not hard-wired to look at screens and cameras but into the other person's eyes.
Remore care needs to become more personalized, allowing more space for empathy in the future. Such technologies, especially if they utilize our existing equipment - will pave the way.

We set out to analyse the first studies on ChatGPT in the medical field. These articles were published between November 2022 and early March 2023, and cover a range of topics from the technology’s use in medical education to assisting in radiologic decision-making.
From the 21 studies, three main areas of focus for ChatGPT emerged, namely clinical use, answering medical questions and assisting in education, and scientific writing and research.

"To find a new antibiotic, the researchers first had to train the AI. They took thousands of drugs where the precise chemical structure was known, and manually tested them on Acinetobacter baumannii to see which could slow it down or kill it.
This information was fed into the AI so it could learn the chemical features of drugs that could attack the problematic bacterium. The AI was then unleashed on a list of 6,680 compounds whose effectiveness was unknown."

1 年AI in medicine must be handled with extreme care. Agency/remote-weapons-grade tech has been freely available to Australia's organised crime since 2019 at least - see my profile/posts. Cyber-risks are global. The power over life and death anonymously and risk-free is irresistible to opportunistic insiders at places like the Australian Signals Directorate.
