Our first #WorkWednesday of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) finds our STARs at one of our valued vocational partnership sites for training and inclusive employment - Germain Toyota and Germain Lincoln of Naples. Germain began providing vocational training to our Trailblazer Academy participants in the summer of 2023. Now, not one, not two, but THREE participants have acquired part-time, paid positions in various departments with the support of our Career Services team. October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month and we're kicking off the month with a recent STAR Award! Last month, STARability presented a STAR Award to Paragon Theaters, one of our dedicated vocational partners. The award was presented to Latrelle Day, the theater’s manager, and his team by employee and STARability participant Meghan E. The award recognizes local businesses that employ STARability participants, including those enrolled in the Trailblazer Academy, a community-based program focused on providing vocational training, life skill development and recreational experiences for people with IDD. STARability is excited to announce the return of the ball assistant program for the upcoming 2024-2025 Collier County high school football season. Offered in partnership with the Greater Naples Officials Association, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) have the unique opportunity to train as referees during junior varsity games on Thursday nights at local high schools throughout Naples. “We are thrilled to partner with the GREATER NAPLES OFFICIALS ASSOCIATION INC again this year to offer this incredible program for our STAR participants,” said Jeff Maconaghy, chair of STARability’s Board of Directors and college football referee who was responsible for spearheading the program. “This program serves as a shining example of how our community can create inclusive opportunities and inspire the next generation. STARability is proud to announce that it was recently named one of Florida’s “Best Companies To Work For” by Florida Trend Media Company magazine. The annual list featured in the August issue ranks 100 companies in small, medium and large employer categories. Dedicated to providing support and creating inclusive opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families, STARability ranked 22nd in the small business category and was one of only two Naples-based companies to make the list. The “Best Companies To Work For In Florida” program is managed by Florida Trend and Workforce Research Group and is endorsed by the HR Florida State Council. Workforce Research Group managed the registration, survey and analysis and determined the final rankings.
