“It was surprising that domestic violence was so pervasive, that 59% of kids who died in mass shootings were at the hands of a family member,” said the study’s senior author, Stephanie Chao, MD, associate professor of surgery. https://lnkd.in/gsXWzHzZ

I was delighted to participate in the Surgical Safety Network meeting hosted by Surgical Safety Technologies. I also had a chance to sit down with the team and discuss the role of their technologies for improving surgical safety, the quality of care, and the opportunities for improving surgical training. https://lnkd.in/eGHdyhMj

Dr. Kay Hung, a resident in our General Surgery Residency Program, spent the first year of her professional development as a Stanford Biodesign Innovation Fellow. After an externship during her final month, she was able to secure a position at Intuitive Surgical, maker of the Da Vinci Robotic system, for the second year. Don't worry! She says she's excited about returning to the OR and clinical rotations this summer <3

?? In a recent interview with Stanford Surgery about the professional development (PD) years of her residency, Kay Hung shares reflections on her experience as a 2023-24 Stanford Biodesign Innovation Fellow and how her the externship she undertook as part of the fellowship led to a year-long opportunity at Intuitive Surgical: https://lnkd.in/grhwY4eQ As part of their training, Stanford Biodesign Innovation Fellows spend the final four to six weeks of their program pursuing a “custom” experience that best aligns with their career interests/goals. Some fellows take a short-term externship position in a segment of the health technology industry in which they’ve never worked, including incubators, start-up companies, design firms, venture capital firms, or major technology corporations). #innovationeducation #biodesign #healthtech
