Stand.earth challenges corporations and governments to treat people and the environment with respect.
关于我们
Stand.earth challenges corporations and governments to treat people and the environment with respect, because our lives depend on it. Stand.earth is an advocacy organization made up of people challenging governments and corporations to make the health of our communities, our environment, and our climate the top priority. We are also #4 on Fast Company's 2023 list of Most Innovative Nonprofits. We protect the forests and the stable climate required to keep our planet — and us — thriving. Our campaigns challenge destructive corporate and governmental practices, demand accountability, and create solutions that support all of us, and the environment and climate we depend upon. We recognize and respect the sovereignty of First Nations and tribes, as well as the rights of indigenous people and frontline communities. These communities are often first and most directly impacted — and provide critical leadership in developing solutions.

On April 23, join us for the launch of the First Do No Harm campaign website—a new hub for mobilizing doctors, nurses, and hospital staff to demand fossil-free pensions. We’ll explore the intersection of public health, climate risk, and retirement fund accountability—and share tools you can use to take action. 📅 April 23 | 9am PT / 12pm ET 🔗 Register: https://lnkd.in/eKFZ3mvV #FirstDoNoHarm #ClimateSafeRetirement #HealthcareForClimate #HealthEquity #ClimateSafeRetirement

This is a Big Deal! Climate justice work in cities is one of the mostly untapped ways we can fight back against Trump and win. The majority of climate pollution happens in cities and this is a place where we can protect people's health and reduce emissions - and amazing things happen when you work at this level. Here are just a few of the ways: -- We win. Not a bad place to start! -- People across the political spectrum get engaged. -- Citizens see government deliver something good, something that matters to their daily lives (cleaner air). -- These campaigns often activate new people into local politics including getting them to run for local office! -- Winning begets winning - cities see strength in numbers, often they move forward in groups, compounding progress. 🎉 Berkeley, CA, just passed a policy to cut air and climate pollution from existing homes! Kudos to the City of Berkeley and local advocates for your work to make this happen. 👊 Big thanks to groups SAFE Cities at Stand.earth has been working with in supporting these amendments, including: Berkeley Electrification Working Group, SPUR, Alameda County Chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby, Building Electrification Institute, and Sierra Club. Local leaders know what’s best for their communities. And what are they asking for? More green, affordable homes. We can address the housing crisis and climate change at the same time 💪 https://lnkd.in/ezmk_96x

Fossil fuel stocks, for years, have been increasing more volatile than the rest of the market, and that continued to hold true during last week's rollercoaster. Swipe to see the differences in the performance of the S&P 500 compared to the performance of the S&P500 ex-Energy (no fossil fuel companies) and the performance of energy companies who are part of the S&P500. If your portfolio, retirement plan, or pension fund has exposure to fossil fuel stocks, it's time to talk with your investment manager or pension fund. Learn more at climatesafepensions.org.

WIN: J.P. Morgan, the world’s #1 fossil fuel financier, just committed to hold its clients to higher standards in respecting Indigenous Peoples’ Rights. Ahead of the bank’s shareholder meeting, investors United Church Funds and Investor Advocates for Social Justice negotiated with the bank to ensure that its clients obtain Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) from impacted Indigenous communities before issuing corporate finance. Now, all eyes are on Citi and Wells Fargo, where shareholders will vote on whether their Indigenous Rights policies are up to scratch (spoiler alert: they’re not!). https://lnkd.in/ezBPPrK4

Big Canadian fossil fuel financing banks RBC and BMO had their annual shareholder meetings last week. Here's my take on what went down, who was there, what was said and what was completely missing in action. Notably one of the big climate votes at the BMO meeting calling on the bank to disclose its energy financing ratio received support from 32% of shareholders - a notable achievement for a 1st year resolution. A similar proposal, filed by the Office of the New York City Comptroller last at RBC was withdrawn (but RBC seems to have forgotten its commitment to share its ratio).
