Stand.earth challenges corporations and governments to treat people and the environment with respect.
关于我们
Stand.earth challenges corporations and governments to treat people and the environment with respect, because our lives depend on it. Stand.earth is an advocacy organization made up of people challenging governments and corporations to make the health of our communities, our environment, and our climate the top priority. We are also #4 on Fast Company's 2023 list of Most Innovative Nonprofits. We protect the forests and the stable climate required to keep our planet — and us — thriving. Our campaigns challenge destructive corporate and governmental practices, demand accountability, and create solutions that support all of us, and the environment and climate we depend upon. We recognize and respect the sovereignty of First Nations and tribes, as well as the rights of indigenous people and frontline communities. These communities are often first and most directly impacted — and provide critical leadership in developing solutions.

Canada’s response to the trade war must go hand-in-hand with climate action. Canadians deserve real energy solutions that protect people and the planet. 💪 “The next federal government should invest in green infrastructure, energy and transportation, as well as health care and other social services, while providing relief for workers hit hard by the trade war,” writes Stand.earth #SAFECities Climate Campaigner Lana Goldberg. “This will both help people today and build a sustainable future.” Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/ez32_uww

Costco has a choice: Stand with its members and shareholders—or stay tied to a bank fueling climate destruction. As the third-largest retailer in the U.S., Costco has significant influence over its business partners. Yet, its credit card partner, Citibank, is the world’s second-largest funder of fossil fuels, having poured over $396 billion into dirty energy since 2016. Costco members, employees, and shareholders deserve better. It’s time for Costco to step up and demand Citi stop financing fossil fuel expansion—or start looking for a new, climate-friendly credit card partner. Join us in calling on Costco to take climate action! Sign the petition today. ✍️ https://lnkd.in/g-PC77Eq

"More than 50 Indigenous communities [in Canada] – with a total population of 56,000 people – depend on about 6,000km of winter roads." ..and those roads are disappearing because of climate change. https://lnkd.in/esxPzF9s

Last year, I protested in front of the Santander headquarters outside of Madrid. This year, their AGM is fully online (to avoid more bad press?), and I'm in Tarapoto, Peru, presenting our research on how Santander and other banks are financing companies that bring live-threatening pollution, displacement, and social chaos among Indigenous Amazonian communities. Listening to their stories first-hand is sobering, and watching their resilience is inspiring. Banks like numbers, so I will give one - 80% of Santander transactions into Amazon oil and gas are bond underwritings, which, as the bank told us, are not part of their emission targets, and they're not considered material. But impacts are material, like skin cancer, heavy metal poisoning, and multiple other diseases from constant oil spills into rivers and forests. Like armed violence from companies and states against those who seek remediation from pollution and the brutal takeover of territories. Disappearing languages and cultures through various tactics that aim to trigger social conflicts among communities and limit their resistance. It's time for banks to take responsibility for their financing. But that's not what you'll hear at Santander's AGM today, because they're making it more and more difficult for shareholders to make voices like Stand.earth Greenpeace España Alianza por la Solidaridad-ActionAid Ecologistas en Acción heard. #SantanderBancoChungo #ExitAmazonOilAndGas 🌍 Lara de Mesa Fermín Martínez de Hurtado Yela Olga Grau

💸 Today, Santander is holding its annual general meeting—a moment to announce huge profits at the cost of our lives. 🚨 While Santander claims to be the most sustainable bank in the world, it continues to put billions of dollars into corporations behind fossil fuel expansion and deforestation. 📢 Europe’s largest financier of oil and gas in the Amazon, and fourth largest worldwide, the Spanish bank has poured an estimated $1.36 billion into the oil and gas industry operating in the Amazonian territory over the last 15 years. ✊ We join Alianza por la Solidaridad-ActionAid, Ecologistas en Acción, Greenpeace, Youth For Climate, Mighty Earth, and other civil society organizations to call on Santander to stop financing the world's most polluting industries and their violations to human rights. #SantanderBancoChungo #FossilBanksNoThanks #ExitAmazonOilAndGas #AmazonFreeOfOilAndGas

SAVE THE DATE ‼️ Don’t miss the Vancouver Climate Strike Coalition’s Global Climate Strike march and rally later this month on Sunday, April 13 at 1:00pm at the Vancouver Art Gallery, located on the unceded and ancestral lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səlilwətaɬ Nations. Read this message from Van Climate Strike Coalition to learn more about the event: Industry and Canadian political leaders are using Trump’s tariffs and threats of annexation as an excuse to expand fracking and LNG exports and build more pipelines. We won’t let them get away with it. We are coming together to say this will take us in the wrong direction! Burning more fossil fuels only benefits billionaires. An unstable climate means a higher cost of living, food insecurity, global conflicts and mass migration. For example, LNG exports are directly linked to a doubling of gas bills for British Columbians. Now is the time to channel our frustration into envisioning a better future for us all - a future that benefits working people, not just billionaires - a future fueled by renewable energy and a green economy - a future where our kids can grow up on a healthy and safe planet and Indigenous peoples’ rights are respected and protected. It is possible - if we work together to protect the people and places we love. Join us.
