Please join us TONIGHT, July 8th at 9 PM ET for a Stamps Talk with U.S. Naval Academy alum Andrew Zhao ('17) on Navigating Parenthood, Career, and Community as a Young Professional. Register for the event here: https://lnkd.in/ecmBeUt7 Topic, from Andrew: "This talk isn’t a success story and doesn’t aim to be prescriptive; instead, it’s descriptive – a chance, really for me to reflect on being a young parent, a young professional, married to another young professional – building our family, our home, our household. I’ll share some thoughts on my own career development, how it’s changed ever since my son Joshua arrived, and how it intertwines with my wife’s career progression. I’ll share some practical habits of our household – on bedtime, on mealtime, screen time – and also on marriage after kids. And I’ll share a bit about our local community, our extended family and friends, and the village that has come around our family to raise Joshua.” About Andrew: Andrew is the proud dad of Joshua, a one-year old toddler who finds everything in this world – toy cars, real cars, rabbits, birds, bubbles – wondrous, and he’s lucky to be the husband of Shiwen, a terrific mom who also happens to work as a software engineer for Amazon. During business hours, Andrew is a Branch Chief at U.S. Transportation Command, a four-star functional combatant command responsible for employing the Department of Defense’s mobility forces globally. Before his time at USTRANSCOM, Andrew was a Surface Warfare Officer and did two extended combat deployments to the Middle East and Europe. Andrew graduated with a MS in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University, and before that, he was a Stamps Scholar at the United States Naval Academy, where he graduated with a BS in Computer Science. Andrew and his family are members of the Assemblies of God and of the O’Fallon Assemblies of God congregation.

Masters Student at The University of Mississippi - Department of Public Health

??I'm proud to share the successful conclusion of my Stamps Impact Prize initiative titled: University of Mississippi Clean Air Project (UM-CAP). My project focused on developing and implementing Corsi-Rosenthal boxes: DIY cost-effective air purifiers that can be easily made at home. We also aimed to foster better air quality awareness and provide practical solutions for indoor air purification. Here is a list of some of the key outcomes we achieved: - Educational Outreach: I delivered a presentation to over 75 high school students at Oxford High School, teaching them about the importance of clean air and DIY air filtration technologies. - Hands-on Workshops: At the Center for Applied Engineering (CAE), we constructed 50 Corsi-Rosenthal boxes and distributed them to classrooms at Central Elementary School to improve indoor air quality. - Impact Assessment: We quantitatively assessed the effectiveness of these filters by monitoring air quality pre-implementation. This project really showed me how amazing local community leaders and partners can be. Their proactive involvement and insights were key to our success, and they've helped lay the groundwork for potentially bigger, more sustainable projects in the future. I'm so thankful for their support and collaboration. A special shoutout to the Stamps Scholars Program for seeing the value and potential of this project. The Impact Prize provided the financial capabilities to make this project happen and without their support, we wouldn't have been able to achieve so much. Working on UM-CAP was definitely a highlight of my undergraduate career. It gave me invaluable hands-on experience in project management, teamwork, and what its like to work on public health initiatives. These lessons are something I'll carry with me into my career and my upcoming master’s program. I'm so grateful for this opportunity and for everyone who helped make it a reality. A huge thank you to my mentor and supporters from the university throughout this project Dr. Allison Ford-Wade, the provost Noel Wilkin, and the Director of the Stamps Impact Prize Dr. Kenneth Sufka. I also want to thank our partners, community leaders, and supporters who made this project possible. Your contributions and collaboration have been invaluable. Looking forward to more projects that make a positive impact on our communities! ?? #CleanAir #CommunityProject #Sustainability #AirQuality #PublicHealth #ProjectManagement #Education #DIYTechnology
