Last Friday, the Power of Place Convening wrapped up after an inspiring gathering of leaders, educators, and advocates working to support vulnerable children and families. Harlem Children's Zone Geoffrey Canada and Kwame Owusu-Kesse shared powerful strategies for using place-based approaches to uplift entire communities, while Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona emphasized the role of education in fostering resilience. Staff from all five Connecticut Cradle to Career collectives attended, proudly representing our state’s dedication to collective impact. A highlight of the convening was meeting Monroe Nichols, the first Black mayor of Tulsa, a powerful moment underscoring the importance of representation in leadership. ??? Our staff were at the Community Schools and University Assisted Community Schools Convening in Philidelphia earlier this week. We dove into learning about impactful partnerships between universities and community schools, along with citywide and statewide community school initiatives. Exited to bring these valuable insights back to Connecticut to strengthen collaboration with our local colleagues and universities for the benefit of our communities. Thank you to the University Assisted Community Schools Network, the Netter Center for Community Partnerships and IEL's Coalition for Community Schools for this inspiring opportunity!
