Today, March 11, marks exactly five years since Stamford Health admitted its first Covid-19 patient. While those early days of the pandemic were filled with uncertainty, sadness, and difficult times, health care heroes across the globe and here at Stamford Health filled our communities with hope. Five years later, it's worth revisiting the way our organization came together and supported our community through an unparalleled crisis. It's also important to remember and honor the lives that were tragically lost. Here are just a few photos from that time including a celebratory sendoff home for one of our first Covid-19 patients; a "thank you" photo dedicated to all of CT's front-line workers; launching our vaccination clinics; beginning vaccinations, and later pediatric vaccinations; and more.?Thank you to all of our employees, past and present, for all you do for our patients every single day.

Stamford Health has received accreditation under the American College of Surgeons (ACS) National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). This achievement follows Stamford Health’s recognition as the first site in the nation to be accredited by the NAPBC in 2009, and its subsequent accreditations in 2012, 2015, 2018, and 2021.? Programs accredited by the NAPBC follow a rigorous model for organizing and managing a breast center to facilitate multidisciplinary, integrated, and comprehensive breast cancer services. Led by Co-Directors Sarah Cate, MD, FACS, Chief of Breast Surgery and Mia Kazanjian, MD, Director of Women’s Imaging, Stamford Health’s Breast Center offers a full suite of breast health services including mammography, ultrasound, MRI, breast biopsy, nurse navigation, a high-risk program, and breast surgery. Congratulations to our teams on these outstanding accomplishments!

Heart Health Month may be over, but our physicians will continue to advocate for increased awareness of cardiac issues and screening. Last week, Dr. Edward Schuster, a Stamford Health cardiologist, attended a press conference to speak with legislators and bring awareness to the importance of calcium screening. A coronary calcium scan is a non-invasive imaging test that measures the amount of calcium deposits in the coronary arteries (the blood vessels that supply blood to the heart). The results of the scan, in conjunction with other risk factors (age, family history, and more), help to determine overall risk of heart disease. As of last year, insurance companies are required to cover the cost of these scans in Connecticut. "I am proud that the state of Connecticut has recognized the importance of this life-saving screening, that will now be covered by insurance for patients and will undoubtedly help us save more lives," said Dr. Schuster.

Stamford Health has been designated a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence? (DICOE) by the American College of Radiology? (ACR?). We are the first imaging center in Fairfield County to receive this important designation which applies to our imaging provided at Stamford Hospital, Tully Health Center, Darien Imaging Center, Greenwich Imaging Center, and Wilton Imaging Center. The DICOE program, which represents the pinnacle of medical imaging care, is an achievement that goes beyond accreditation to recognize best-quality imaging practices and diagnostic care. This includes a comprehensive assessment of the entire medical imaging enterprise, including structure and outcomes. The DICOE designation recognizes excellence at multiple levels — including the professional staff, the technology, and the policies and procedures the organization follows — and superior patient care.
