This week, SPARC Director Jennifer Landhuis and Senior Training & Awareness Specialist Dana Fleitman were honored and delighted to join with a few of the incredible stalking survivors who inspire us every day -- Caitlin Mathis, Aziza Murphy, Debbie Riddle, Lenora Claire, and Anna Nasset -- to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) in Washington, D.C.!
VAWA was the first federal legislation providing resources to fund and promote community-coordinated responses around gender-based violence. Up for renewal every five years, each VAWA reauthorization has built on existing protections and programs to better meet the needs of survivors and expanded its services, reach, and population served.
What a gift to reflect and celebrate the progress over the past 30 years and the countless survivors, mentors, advocates, and allies who have bravely led this movement. Now, back to work!
