The lack of regulations of PFAS for consumer products has caused researchers to uncover PFAS in surprising places. Recent studies found PFAS in menstrual products. This coupled with additional studies demonstrating high levels of absorption through the skin has left many concerned. Testing of Carefree menstrual products revealed PFAS, but the label did not state the presence of PFAS. Suit has been filed against the company under California’s proposition 65 which requires PFAS containing consumer products to include a warning. https://lnkd.in/gC6_9-mq

The European Union has taken steps in the past 20 years to study and ban the sale and use of Forever Chemical based products. As we have learned more about the class of 15,000 chemicals that make up PFAS, bans on specific PFAS chemicals has become more common. The most recent ban relates to the sale and use of PFHxA in consumer textiles, food packaging, consumer mixtures, cosmetics, and in some firefighting foam applications. An increased risk of brain tumors has been linked to certain birth control medications. One injectable birth control, Depo-Provera, was linked to a 5.6-fold higher risk of developing certain brain tumors with prolonged use.
