After meticulous planning, crews successfully executed a deck pour on the Trancas Creek Bridge on the famed Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, CA, bringing us closer to the finish line. Seismic testing advances for the Earthquake Ready Burnside Bridge with a 10-foot diameter, 125-foot deep test shaft. Burnside Bridge Partners, a joint venture between Stacy Witbeck, Traylor Bros., Inc. and American Bridge Company is leading this full-scale Bi-Directional Load Test to measure how the foundation responds to simulated earthquake forces. Load cell assemblies apply pressure to the shaft while specialized instrumentation records data on structural performance. This test is a critical step in designing the new Burnside Bridge, which will serve as a lifeline route during a Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake.
