Executive Director Douglas Huntsinger, our keynote speaker, shared that drug overdoses are down 18 percent this year! He, along with other legislators, such as Senator Bray and Representative Mayfield, who were in attendance, are championing causes like ours. Stability First Magdalene House offers a work-readiness and skill-building program for women. Two times per week residents head over to Maggie Bags to sew purses! Some ladies favor cutting fabric, others become skilled sewers, and finally, some enjoy the customer service side of things. Supporting Maggie Bags is a great way to support our organization. The profit made from the purses goes back into Maggie Bags for supplies and programming! Another way to be involved is through volunteering. The current list of needs include water, dish detergent, napkins, sugar, coffee, paper towels, toilet paper, bleach, disinfectant wipes, feminine products (panty liners, tampons in all sizes), dryer sheets, personal hygiene items like body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and laundry soap. Our first annual Overdose Awareness Day was a deeply meaningful experience. It was a day marked by collective grief and increased awareness, and we were honored to recognize the local heroes within our recovery community. The Martinsville High School Orchestra delivered a phenomenal performance that added a special touch to the event. As this was our first year, we recognize there is always room for growth, and we sincerely apologize if any names of loved ones were inadvertently missed. Please know we have quietly met to discuss and honor these individuals. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our community partners who came out with materials and information to share. Our Open House yesterday was such a success. We had visitors representing Morgan County Health Department, HealthNet Mobile Health Center, The Morgan County Correspondent, Addiction Rehab Centers, Hudson Plumbing, the Morgan County Library, Home Bank, ACE Hardware Martinsville, Hoosier Egg Heads, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Mt. Gilead Church, Eastview Christian Church, and more! Visitors toured our Administrative Building, Stability First Magdalene House, (our women's recovery house), and Maggie Bags (our skills-readiness program).
