The passage of the Alternative Delivery bill will play a pivotal role in delivering world class projects for this city and is a win for EVERY New Yorker! STA is proud to have supported this bill, which marks a transformative step forward for New York City’s construction industry. We commend NYC Department of Design and Construction, Mayor Adams, and the incredible leadership from Senators Comrie and Sepulveda, Assemblymember Braunstein, and Deputy Mayor Joshi. This important milestone would not have been reached without them.
We are thrilled to share that Governor Hochul signed the Alternative Delivery bill into law on Friday – a culmination of years of hard work by DDC, our industry partners, and leaders including Mayor Adams, Deputy Mayor Joshi, Senators Comrie and Sepulveda, and Assemblymember Braunstein. ? DDC has demonstrated what we can accomplish when we get the tools we need: delivering world-class facilities years faster through our inaugural design-build program and building critical facilities in record time for New Yorkers in emergencies. Thanks to this bill, it will no longer take an emergency to use common-sense tools like CM-build for New York City’s libraries and cultural institutions. ? We have already started the work to put CM-build to use: exchanging best practices with other public owners, developing fair and balanced contracts, and identifying the projects that can most benefit from this tool as part of our pilot program, managed under a special unit at DDC.?Stay tuned for updates in early 2025, when we’ll be seeking input from the industry ahead of our first CM-build solicitations. DDC extends our heartfelt thanks to the colleagues, partners, and leaders at every level who helped get us here. We would like to extend our thanks to the Mayor’s Capital Process Reform Task Force and organizations including American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), AIA New York | Center for Architecture, Building Trades Employers' Association, Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA), General Contractors Association, New York Building Congress, and the Subcontractors Trade Association.
