  • Halloween is here! It's important to consider how we can make this fun-filled holiday accessible to everyone in our community. Here are a few tips to help ensure an inclusive and enjoyable experience for all: • Clear Pathways: Ensure all paths leading to your home are clear of obstacles, well-lit, and wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs and walkers. If your home is only accessible via stairs or a steep driveway, consider setting up a treat station near the sidewalk instead. • Non-Food Treat Options: Participate in the Teal Pumpkin Project by offering non-food items such as stickers, glow sticks, or small toys. This helps children with dietary restrictions fully enjoy trick-or-treating. • Sensory-Sensitive Decorations: Opt for decorations that are less likely to cause sensory overload. Avoid flashing lights and loud noises; choose static decorations and soft lighting instead. If you have other decorations, consider a yard sign alerting visitors of the sensory experiences ahead. • Quiet Zones: At your celebration prepare a quiet area away from the main festivities Creating a welcoming environment this Halloween fosters a sense of belonging and enjoyment for everyone. By taking these steps, we can help build a community that values accessibility and inclusion, ensuring everyone can partake in the festivities.
