This is the place for all of you in this group to share ideas and thoughts for keeping the growth rate up for our STL metro foreign-born community. And, how to make our ongoing community the most welcoming possible. You will find it interesting that two of our Professional Connectees make such good first connections that they quickly got job offers- one started today in a great role with a nonprofit in an operating role and the other got a verbal job offer and is waiting for more information. And, the @International Institute St. Louis awarded three $15,000 grants, one to each of three Afghan entrepreneurs last week. Our international community is key to the economic growth of our region and adds to what our native-born community can provide for growth.

Welcome BJC HealthCare to our Ambassador Company Family!
Executive Director for the St. Louis Mosaic Project | Connector | Catalyst for Economic Development | Community Builder | Strategic Communicator | Hablo Espanol
We are so excited to welcome BJC HealthCare as the 56th St. Louis Mosaic Project Ambassador Company family during #WelcomingWeek2024!! Yesterday we made the announcement during a wonderful welcome breakfast hosted by Rick L. Stevens, FACHE, Dr. Tommye Austin, Yasmin Chittakhone, PHR, SHRM-CP, Nergis Yüksel Cavitt for their international nurses and staff. We were honored to be joined by St. Louis County Sam Page and City of St. Louis' Dir. of the Office of New Americans, Gilberto Pinela, MA. BJC has hired approximately 100 nurses from around the world, which helped the St. Louis metro record the highest percentage increase in foreign-born population among the 30 largest metro areas in U.S. from 2022-2023!! Through our new partnership, St. Louis Mosaic Project will facilitate deeper welcoming by introducing the nurses and their families to our social connector groups and others in the community, so they find deeper belonging in their new hometown. Empowering New Beginnings! 🌟 Last night, Betsy Cohen and I had the privilege of leading our first of three workshops at Delmar DivINe about how to explore and prepare for the job search process in St. Louis for 45 refugees who are participating in "Empower: Career Success for Refugees" program at School of Continuing & Professional Studies at Washington University in St. Louis. After their 26-week next-level English instruction, students are "ready" to find work in the fields of health care and other high-demand industries in St. Louis. These are professionals who were doctors, engineers, robotics specialists, dentists, teachers and more in their home countries. Our focus is guiding them through their next steps and helping them understand how to navigate the daunting task of starting over. We talked to them about the basic--resumes, cover letters, the importance of networking and how to initiate conversations to start building relationships. And to be patient with the U.S. job search process which, no pun intended, is foreign to them. If you or your company are interested in hiring these talented and motivated individuals, or if you'd like to learn more about how you can support their career journeys, please let me know! Many thanks to Katie Blackburn Brown, André Mayers, and Jodie Vice Lloyd for leading this incredible program and necessary work! Proud to be part of the STLCO 2050 Planning Committee with many leaders from around the county. The County is very excited about developing this once-in-a-generation plan that will replace the current comprehensive plan developed over four decades ago (1980)! STLCO 2050 will be data-driven, grounded in a firm understanding of trends, current conditions, and best planning practices.
