Saint Ignatius School mourns the passing of Pope Francis. As the first Jesuit pope and the first pope from Latin America, SIS felt a strong connection to the pontiff. He placed peripheral communities at the center of his papacy. He provided our school with an example in cura personalis in his teachings to accompany families and communities. He was a model servant-leader whose life and example guided the mission of the school. SIS joins the Universal Church in praying for his eternal rest and for the Holy Spirit to choose the next successor of Saint Peter. #popefrancis #amdg #SIS

Today, our Saint Ignatius School community walked the Stations of the Cross through the streets of Hunts Point. The walk reminded us of Christ’s passion and sacrifice and encouraged our students and families to embrace hope, peace, and positive action within our community. Many thanks to the 41st Precinct for their support and to all our SIS families who joined us in this beautiful display of reflection throughout our neighborhood.

Carrying light with you as you go! Our 8th graders had their annual retreat on Fordham University's Rose Hill campus, where they identified the graces of their SIS experience and reflected on how they could carry the light of Christ with them after graduation. A huge thank you to Fordham Preparatory School and Mr. Kravatz's Ministry Leadership Team for leading yet another moving retreat. #SIS #IgnitingMinds #TransformingLives

Last week, SIS welcomed Ali Truwit, two-time American record holder, two-time Paralympic silver medalist, and founder of the Stronger Than You Think Foundation. Joined by her mother and Team USA coach Jamie Barone, Ali shared her inspiring journey of resilience, leading to her success in the '24 Paris Paralympics. We are grateful for the support of Ali and Stronger Than You Think in our aquatics and water safety segments of the SIS Summer Leadership Program, where many students learn to swim for the very first time. Ali reminded our students that they are stronger than they think, encouraging them to push their limits -- both in the pool and beyond. #IgnitingMinds #TransformingLives

Last week, our 8th graders embarked on a multi-day trip to Washington, D.C., continuing a tradition of SIS graduating classes exploring our nation's capital. A big shoutout to our dedicated teachers - Mrs. Gittings, Mr. Malone, Mr. McGinnis, and Mr. Kemper, SJ -- who accompanied the students and represented three different subjects to enhance the students' understanding of democracy, freedom, and history. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to The Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament Parish (DC) families for hosting our students and keeping this wonderful tradition alive. Warm thanks as well to our Jesuit partners Georgetown Preparatory School and Gonzaga College High School, whose support was invaluable in making the trip a success! #IgnitingMinds #TransformingLives #SIS

Happy National School Counseling Week! At SIS, Mrs. Garnett and Ms. Cabrera go above and beyond traditional guidance - they foster confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging in every student! Through our counseling program and Cura Personalis ("care for the whole person") classes, they help our SIS students navigate challenges, reflect on their growth, and care for themselves and others. Thank you, Mrs. Garnett and Ms. Cabrera, for your dedication to our SIS community! #NSCW25 #IgnitingMinds #TransformingLives #SIS30

We are excited to share that 100% of our eighth-grade students received admissions offers from at least 2 of their top 3 high school choices! Our students secured offers from 14 Catholic high schools, with three students earning full or significant scholarships. We're so proud of our hardworking students and the dedicated SIS faculty and staff who made this possible! #IgnitingMinds #TransformingLives #SIS30 #GSP
