JOIN US TONIGHT FOR THE OPENING RECEPTION: https://lnkd.in/gpqqRY3d Exhibit opens TODAY AT 4PM at Understudy gallery in the Colorado Convention Center, 890 14th Street. Hear from St. Francis Center resident artists, CEO Nancy Burke, and Emma Balder Art at 5:30pm. This project goes beyond a typical art show. Artist Emma Balder facilitated regenerative art sessions where residents from St. Francis Apartments at Cathedral Square used abstract expressionism to channel their experiences with challenges like addiction, mental health, and job seeking into vibrant canvases. These canvases were then deconstructed and reconstructed, mirroring the residents' own journeys of rebuilding their lives. The resulting boulder-like sculpture, along with video documentation and personal challenge cards, creates a deeply moving experience. As resident Darrin Johnson states, "You can pick your life up, put it back together and it might be more beautiful and colorful than before." The exhibition highlights how art can provide a platform for marginalized voices, fostering empathy and challenging societal perceptions.

关于我们
St. Francis Center (SFC) is a refuge for men and women who are homeless in the metro Denver area, providing services that enable people to meet their basic needs for daily survival and to transition out of homelessness. It is a safe, inviting place to be during the day when other shelters are unavailable. Our staff includes a social worker, nurse, mental health counselor and employment specialist and each of them is available to assist SFC guests* with their concerns. More than anything else, St. Francis Center offers hope when it is needed most.

Huge thanks to the Love Family & the incredible students of Colorado Academy for organizing a successful Jean Drive for the Day Center! 👖✨ Their generosity came at the perfect time, providing warmth, dignity, and protection for our guests during these freezing temperatures. ❄️ Photo of student volunteers stocking the Clothing Room and helping guests pick out their new jeans! Moments like these remind us of the power of community and kindness. 👏❤️ Hosting a donation drive for St. Francis Center is easy! If your school, business, church, or community group is interested in hosting a drive, simply start collecting items and then drop them off at our Day Center! Jennifer Brown from @thecoloradosun reports: "The lifelong chef, who began as an apprentice at the now-closed Writers’ Manor Luxury Hotel and had a long career in Denver restaurants, was homeless for more than two years after he lost his job during the pandemic. A series of heart and kidney problems kept him returning to the hospital, and for a time, Hoover could not walk after spending a month in a hospital bed. Now, though, he is living at the new St. Francis Apartments West, in one of 60 units built for homeless adults older than 55 who have disabling health conditions. “I’m still kind of in shock that this is really happening,” said Hoover, who was one of the first tenants to move in last week. “Putting a key in your own door and opening it up, and there’s your own refrigerator and stove, your bed and your bathroom. It’s a huge bathroom. It’s such a beautiful feeling." 👏 🏡 Everyone deserves a place to call home. Help us support new residents like Ronnie Hoover by donating essential items through the St. Francis Apartments West move-in registry, we still have bout 400 items to go: https://lnkd.in/gwzAd2Xt 🔗 Click this link to read the full story: https://lnkd.in/g6kD2G5R #HousingSuccess #StFrancisCenter #ColoradoSun #EndHomelessness 📸 Photo by Michael Ciaglo, The Colorado Sun

Today, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a visionary leader whose compassion and powerful words inspire us to embrace humanity and fight for equality. "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" At St. Francis Center, we are dedicated to serving homeless and unhoused adults, striving to carry forward his dignified, nonviolent pursuit of justice and equality. Thank you, Dr. King, for paving the way. May we all strive to make a difference in our community every day. #MLKDay #serveothers #equalityforall #endhomelessness #stfranciscenterdenver Amazing artwork by @obeygiant!
