Congratulations to Olivia Knight, BSN, RN, Emergency Department who was named St. Dominic’s DAISY Award recipient for November 2024! The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. A patient nominated Olivia for the DAISY award because of the empathy and compassion she showed while caring for the patient. The nomination said, “I was admitted into the emergency room for a second visit in less than a week. I was not able to full recover after my first visit and left with some unanswered questions. Olivia advocated for me and helped get me into a hospital room when I was afraid I was going to be discharged. She stayed past her shift in the ER just to walk me to my hospital room so that she could verify that I was going to be admitted and cared for. She not only listened to me and fed me but made the time in the ER enjoyable and genuinely looked after me. I felt like in the midst a difficult time for me, she was sent to be a blessing I needed to get through this health hurdle.” Please comment and join us in congratulating Olivia! St. Dominic's Comprehensive Cancer team recently held a special blessing and demonstration of the program's newest equipment which provides advanced imaging for all diagnoses and includes motion management for treating breast and lung cancer patients more effectively while minimizing damage to healthy tissues. This motion management allows breathing around the tumors to be monitored to verify that the treatment stays within the treatment area for the external beam. The new CT simulator at St. Dominic Cancer Center allows the team to simplify routine imaging and treatment planning steps while enhancing the radiation therapy workflow. Congratulations to Kanesha McFarland, 5 East Nursing Assistant/Clinical Service Representative, who was named St. Dominic’s most recent BEE Award recipient! Just as the DAISY cannot survive without the BEE, our nurses cannot thrive without the outstanding teamwork provided by their colleagues. The BEE Award, Being Extraordinary Every day, honors team members outside of our nursing team who help to create an exceptional patient experience. Kanesha was nominated for the award by a fellow team member who said Kanesha is often able to anticipate the needs of others and always takes initiative to step in when help is needed. “On a busy day, Kanesha was working as the unit secretary,” the nomination said. “One of my patients had an accident and needed to be cleaned quickly, but it was too difficult for me to change the patient on my own due to their condition. The nursing assistant on duty was busy with another patient, so Kanesha stepped right in and helped with this patient. Later the same day, Kanesha helped me bathe another patient. I am so grateful to have a team member that goes above and beyond. She didn't have to help me, but she did and with a great attitude.” Join us in congratulating Kanesha and leave a comment giving her a shout out! Do you know another St. Dominic’s team member who deserves to be recognized for their extraordinary service to others? Click here to nominate a team member for the BEE award: https://bit.ly/3PRKiar
