We are excited to announce Pathways to Economic Stability for Healthcare Workforce, a new funding opportunity focused on building pathways to financially sustainable healthcare careers. This grant will provide an unrestricted, one-time, 24-month grant to eligible organizations—including previous, current, and new grantees. Austin PBS’s Decibel program is a community-led journalism project that amplifies stories and issues important to our region by listening to the community and encouraging dynamic discussion. In their recent story, “How Las Promotoras de Salud Are Keeping Their Neighbors Healthy,” they explore how community health workers in Rundberg are helping residents sign up for Central Health’s Medical Access Program (MAP) and connect them with other vital health resources and programs. “One of the biggest issues that we've identified is trust in the system,” said Amy Einhorn, Program Director at St. David’s Foundation. “Having a community health worker who is of the community, who really understands the people that they're supporting … is just an incredible resource.” A promotora’s main mission is to use their influence as well-known community members to reach out to residents and bridge cultural gaps that might be preventing their neighbors from seeking medical care. Last weekend, we were honored to celebrate and recognize the opening of the newly renovated Memorial Track in Taylor, Texas, alongside City of Taylor officials and representatives from Samsung.
