The U.S. manufacturing industry is rapidly growing, but millions of jobs may go unfilled without a skilled workforce to support new technologies. St. Louis Makes had the opportunity to tour one of the colleges providing innovative solutions to train the workforce of the future. Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) opened its new $20 million, 33,000-square-foot Advanced Manufacturing Academy, one of the most advanced manufacturing facilities in the country. In addition to the precision machining technology certificate, SWIC now offers advanced certificates in additive manufacturing, tool and die mold-making, and advanced automation/multi-axis CNC (machining plastic/metal parts). Thank you Mark Bosworth for the insightful tour, we are truly impressed with what SWIC has accomplished!
