During the Holocaust, six million Jews were murdered. Entire families and communities were destroyed. Survivor Ilse Altman recalls this devastating loss:

On March 19, 1944, Germany invaded Hungary and immediately implemented additional antisemitic laws. Survivor Erika Schwartz was born in Hungary in April 1944 in a Nazi-run ghetto, just one day before the ghetto was sealed.

Nazi Propaganda Unmasked: This image, title Die Bremse (The Brakes), demonizes Jews while presenting the Nazis as a heroic force. Using racist tropes, the image portrays the Jewish man in the carriage as a villain, benefitting from the suffering of those carrying him. Meanwhile, the Nazi stormtrooper is portrayed as the hero, about to put an end to the Jewish man's "greed."
