Our Quality Management Director - Tara Yates - presented her Capstone project for the Missouri Governor’s Leadership Academy yesterday in Jefferson City. We are so proud of Tara and her leadership she provides to St. Louis Forensic Treatment Center.

Tara Yates - who is our Director of Quality Management - received the Governor’s Award for Quality and Productivity in the Efficiency/Process Improvement category for a Green Belt training program she built with three colleagues from other DBH facilities. This training program, developed the Joint Commission Center for Transforming Health care, is a systematic approach to problem-solving. It is a set of strategies, tools, methodologies, and training programs for improving our facility processes. The methodologies include Lean, Six Sigma, and Formal Change Management. Part of Tara’s Black Belt certification was the development of this training program, facilitating the Green Belt training program, mentoring Green Belt candidates through project work, and participating in the Green Belt certification process. A Fulton State Hospital team’s project identified a procedure that significantly improved the medication administration process. The project yielded benefits such as improved medication auditability and traceability, reduced infection control risks, cost savings through bulk purchasing, and the integration of Certified Medication Technicians into the staff. Due to these successes, other DMH facilities have adopted this technology to simplify and standardize their medication processes. Congratulations Tara! We are proud you are part of our team!

This group (and several others not pictured) spent the last two days digging into the work we do at FTC and critically thinking about our goals for the next 5 years. They completed a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) and used that to build strategic goals and aspirations under our 4 Rs – Recovery, Respect, Recruitment, and Retention. We ended the sessions with building our 4 R Tree.?This echoes our logo and the overarching themes of growth and interconnectedness that trees convey – everything that our Strategic Planning strives to be. We thank the participants for their hard work shaping the future of our facility.??

Today is World Down Syndrome Day. #WDSD is celebrated on the 21st day of the 3rd month to represent the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down Syndrome.
