And that's a wrap on Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, but the work doesn't end here. St. Jude won't stop until no child, anywhere, dies from cancer and the ALSAC team vows to stand alongside them to make this a reality. ???
关于我们
ALSAC is the largest healthcare-related charity in the United States. Founded in 1957 by Danny Thomas, our sole mission is to raise the funds and awareness needed to operate and maintain St. Jude Children's Research Hospital?. While our headquarters can be found in Memphis, Tennessee, we have additional offices in more than 30 locations across the country and in Puerto Rico with positions in fundraising, marketing, digital, information technology, legal, finance and many other disciplines all supporting our lifesaving mission - Finding cures. Saving children. ? At ALSAC, we believe in hiring the best and brightest from around the globe, and in 2020 we were named #1 on Fast Company's 100 Best Workplaces for Innovators. With a concerted focus on diversity and inclusion, we value and respect the contributions of all of our employees. Our work environment encourages everyone to be their authentic selves as we strive together towards a day when “no child dies in the dawn of life.” As we look to the future, we understand that we must be relentlessly innovative. Our work helps fuel the groundbreaking research and treatment at St. Jude and ensures that families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live. St. Jude Walk/Run is one of those special events that brings our community of St. Jude supporters closer together each Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. But, the Memphis St. Jude Walk/Run holds a special place in our heart. Thank you to everyone who participated and volunteered. We couldn't help save lives without you! ??

These days, St. Jude patient Kimberlin spends her time enjoying life with her husband of 19 years, her children, and grandchildren. But in 1983, when she was 8 years old, something remarkable happened. A bone marrow transplant, which doctors at St. Jude had intended to treat her acute myeloid leukemia, cured not only the cancer, but her sickle cell disease as well. Since then, Kimberlin has been known as the first person in the world to be cured of sickle cell disease, the most common inherited blood disorder in the United States, affecting about 100,000 Americans and millions more worldwide. ?? https://bit.ly/4gDhwWe

With support from the Marcum Foundation, we are able to help St. Jude provide cutting-edge treatments not covered by insurance, at no cost to families. Thank you for being a partner for this year's St. Jude Walk/Run and helping us save more lives.

Joe Gibbs Racing driver Christopher Bell was behind the wheel of the DEWALT car this weekend featuring the St. Jude logo and patient artwork by Levi and Colton. Bell also sported a custom helmet including artwork by St. Jude patient Hadley. Patients Hadley and Gavin attended the race to witness it all and meet Bell. Thank you White Cap and DEWALT for making this experience possible. Your support helps us accelerate our mission to find cures and save more children around the world.

Move forward. One day at a time. That's what St. Jude patient Yarianis, a talented volleyball player, reminded herself after receiving her cancer diagnosis. Before Yarianis was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, she trained relentlessly for volleyball back home in Puerto Rico. But when she began to feel a never-ending pain in her left leg, tests revealed she needed immediate treatment, and she was referred to St. Jude. “When I arrived at St. Jude, I felt sure that I would get the support I needed,” she said. She began chemotherapy within days of arriving at St. Jude, then underwent limb-sparing surgery and physical therapy soon after. Now, Yarianis is back home with big plans for the future -- college at the university in Puerto Rico and aspirations of being a physical therapist. Her dream? To work at St. Jude. We are so happy to see her moving forward. One day at a time. ?? https://bit.ly/3Zw6b4c

Here at ALSAC, we work to ensure doctors like Sara M. Federico, MD, get to keep doing what they do best -- help save lives. Dr. Federico is one of the many doctors at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital working to understand how to treat and defeat childhood cancer, specifically, neuroblastoma – a cancer that starts in the nervous system and is the second most common pediatric solid tumor, behind brain tumors. Neuroblastoma affects about 800 kids in the U.S. each year, most under the age of 5. Dr. Federico is leading five clinical trials including two new approaches to help save more lives. “I’m thrilled for this opportunity to lead a collaborative, dedicated team of investigators that is passionate about improving cure rates for children with solid tumors,” said Federico. “Together we hope to advance the field through the translation of critical scientific discoveries into innovative therapies and clinical trials which will ultimately lead to improved patient outcomes.”
