Nearly 70 students from our CTE Health Science and CTE Public Safety programs engaged in a "Mock Trial" experience on Thursday, Nov. 14, using the transcript of a real court case to guide them through the steps of a jury trial. Courthouse professionals, including a judge, magistrate, and security staff, partnered with students to simulate each stage of the legal process, offering valuable insights into courtroom roles and procedures. On November 11, the ISD held the 2nd Annual Student Art Reception for more than 200 students who have art pieces on display at the ISD. The packed event was attended by over 450 students, family, friends, teachers, and staff who celebrated the work of our young budding artists. If you find yourself at the ISD this school year, be sure to take time to view the amazing artwork that lines our hallways. Student art work is submitted at the end of each school year by local art teachers and is returned to students with a certificate of recognition at the end of the following school year.??

On November 5 at the ISD several groups from the county came together to participate in the Cost of Poverty Experience (COPE) including: New Teacher Academy, Behavior Network members, second year CTE Teacher Academy students, ISD staff, and many others. In less than three hours, participants experienced the many complexities of what it is like to live in poverty. The poverty simulation allowed participants to deepen their understanding of the realities of poverty in America so that they might improve practices and approaches to better engage low income students and their families. At the end of the session, many participants shared their stories about how the simulation impacted their thinking and emotions - sharing their vulnerability and courage. It was a very powerful experience! A huge shoutout to all of the volunteers and participants who helped to make our COPE Poverty Simulation a success.

Congratulations to Superintendent Teresa Belote, who was randomly selected out of 200 entries to win the MASA Impact drawing! MASA Impact, through the Michigan Association of Superintendents & Administrators, aims to uplift Michigan communities by supporting school leaders in initiatives that make a difference. Thanks to this win, we delivered 'Winter Warm Totes' on November 12th, filled with hats, gloves, scarves, Chapstick, and lotion to students in our programs. Additionally, Operation Reindeer received a $200 boost, helping our staff donations go even further to provide food and gift baskets to families in our community this holiday season! Centreville FFA had an unforgettable experience at the National Convention! Their journey began with a stop at Roberts Farm, where students learned about Boer goats, enjoyed a barrel train ride, a corn maze, and homemade cider donuts. In Indianapolis, they explored a career fair with over 300 businesses, attended inspiring sessions on FFA’s mission, and bonded over group dinners each night. A highlight was visiting CNH Industrial to see agricultural technology in action and enjoying a fun night of bowling, laser tag, and mini-golf with the Calhoun Area Career Center. Listening to Temple Grandin was a special moment, leaving everyone inspired and ready to build on what they learned!
