Cameron is a bright, energetic, and quick-witted boy who has a passion for trains, sports, and his loved ones, especially his little brother, Evan. Just before Easter 2023, Cameron began experiencing dizziness and vomiting, which led to the discovery of a 2.5 cm brain tumor in his fourth ventricle. Thanks to the skilled doctors at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), the tumor was successfully removed. On April 19, 2023, he was diagnosed with a rare form of brain #cancer known as Posterior Fossa Group A (PFA) Ependymoma. Despite the difficulties, Cameron amazed his family by walking out of the CHOP PICU independently. He then started 33 sessions (6.5 weeks) of proton beam radiation at the University of Pennsylvania, requiring him and his parents to stay in Philadelphia during the week while they missed Evan dearly. Their weekend reunions with Evan were especially precious. Throughout his #treatment, Cameron showed incredible bravery, experiencing only hair loss, which took the shape of a heart. His family received encouraging news that the tumor was localized with no signs of metastasis. Remarkably, he didn’t need any therapy after surgery and even learned to ride a bike just two hours after one of his treatments. Every 3 months, Cameron will be monitored with MRIs to ensure there are no changes—his most recent MRI in August showed no evidence of disease! #Research saved Cameron’s life, but much work still needs to be done.
