The very first St. Baldrick’s head-shaving event took place at Jim Brady’s in 2000 and found a new home at Killarney Rose in 2023. After over a decade of dedication, the core committee passed the baton to the U.S. Reinsurance Under 40s Group (ReUnder40s), with Shannon Bender leading the charge. We’re thrilled to see the next generation carrying on the mission to fund pediatric #cancer #research! “St. Baldrick's is very near and dear to my heart as my dad, John Bender, is one of the co-founders of the Foundation so I have been involved with St. Baldrick's all of my life from handing out buttons to selling merchandise to becoming a co-organizer, ponytail donator, and high school student club coordinator at the Rockville Centre St. Agnes St. Baldrick's Event to now serving as lead organizer of the Killarney Rose St. Baldrick's Head Shaving Event.” - Shannon Bender This year’s event raised over $380K for pediatric cancer research and currently ranks #1 nationwide! We can’t wait to see what Shannon, ReUnder40s, and the Killarney Rose legacy participants accomplish next year! ?? #researchishope #researchmatters #volunteer #philanthropy #charity #fundraise

This past weekend, Hawthorn proudly hosted its annual Rock The Bald event, raising over $10,000 in support of childhood cancer research through the St. Baldrick's Foundation. The event brought the community together with a full lineup of family-friendly activities—including raffles, Irish dancing, face painting, balloon art, and a festive photo booth. The highlight? 18 generous individuals shaved their heads in solidarity with children battling cancer. A big congratulations to our local team for their passion, hard work, and continued commitment to making a difference in their community. Six-year-old Julia’s bright smile can light up any room. But in early 2024, her energy faded, and she lost the ability to walk. A trip to urgent care led to a life-changing diagnosis: acute lymphoblastic #leukemia. Thanks to a clinical trial partly funded by St. Baldrick’s, Julia received #blinatumomab (blina), an #immunotherapy that—when combined with chemotherapy—improves survival rates while reducing serious side effects. Despite setbacks, including an infection that delayed treatment, Julia continues to push forward and finished blina in November 2024. Now on maintenance therapy, she’s back in #school, regaining her strength, and looking ahead to her #ballet recital in June. And in March 2026, she’ll ring the bell to mark the end of her #cancer treatment. ?? #Research made this breakthrough possible, and more kids like Julia need our help. A recent study by the St. Baldrick’s EPICC Team tested B7-H3 CAR T-cells for #DIPG, a deadly pediatric brain #tumor. ?? The treatment was safe, and surprisingly, some patients survived 44-52 months, far exceeding typical outcomes. ?? While these results are encouraging, more #research is needed for this treatment to help more children. A larger follow-up study is in the works. We did it! ?????? This past weekend, Hawthorn hosted its annual Rock the Bald event, raising over $10,000 for childhood cancer research through the St. Baldrick's Foundation. With strong support from local police department and the community, we had the privilege of celebrating and supporting 7-year-old Honorary Officer Lilley, a cherished local community member. The event offered a variety of family-friendly activities such as raffles, Irish dancing, face painting, balloon art, and a photo booth, allowing attendees to enjoy the festivities while contributing to a meaningful cause. This event is truly one of my favorites, and it wouldn't be possible without the incredible Hawthorn team and community. This past week, Brother Naeem Newton took on an incredible challenge, raising $1,130 to support St. Baldrick’s Foundation, an organization dedicated to funding childhood cancer research. And in true commitment to the cause, he put it all on the line, his hair included! What made this even more special was the overwhelming support from our brotherhood. From donating to spreading the word to cheering him on as he shaved his head, we stood by him every step of the way. Seeing a brother take the initiative for such a meaningful cause reminds us that leadership isn’t just about what we do in the business world, it’s about how we give back. Proud to call Naeem a brother and proud to be part of a fraternity that champions service, integrity, and impact. Here’s to making a difference, one bold (and bald) move at a time!

Discover how “sprinter” and “marathoner” CAR T-cells work—the former attacks fast, the latter fights long-term. ?? #Researchers found that differences in how these cells organize surface molecules could lead to tailor-made #cancer therapies.
