Volunteers, donors, and supporters of The Storehouse gathered last Thursday evening to celebrate the organization's 15th Anniversary. The evening began with welcome remarks from board chair, Michele Thatcher. Michele shared personal account of what The Storehouse means to her and her family, and how volunteering with her son Josh has shaped his values. Arthur Jones, senior pastor of St. Andrew Methodist, offered the opening prayer and applauded The Storehouse's leadership team for its growing impact on the community. Candace Winslow, CEO, led the guests through a brief recap of The Storehouse's history. She described the various seasons that the organization has been through, and honored former executive directors Janet Collingsworth, Jennifer Powell, and Carolyn Getridge for their unique contributions to The Storehouse mission. Candace then led a fireside chat with The Storehouse Founder Sharon Hasley, and long-time volunteer Nancy Kurkowski. Nancy authored the book "We Are Your Neighbors" - a collection of stories from neighbors who have experienced the programs and impact of The Storehouse. Sharon recounted her journey of establishing The Storehouse, and talked about her dreams for the future of the organization while Nancy shared how her interactions with neighbors served has challenged her perspective on inequality. As the event drew to a close, Candace shared one final special announcement: The Storehouse of Collin County is changing its name to The Storehouse Community Center, a name that more accurately reflects "who we are today, and who we want to be tomorrow.” Photos by Guy Rogers III.

Thank you to all our friends at St. Andrew Preschool for raising $1,500 from their 10th Annual Art Gala! Inspired by Empty Bowls, an international project to fight hunger, Erin West, art teacher, worked with each grade level to decorate a bowl. The finished bowls were then auctioned at the gala to raise funds for The Storehouse mission. On Wednesday, March 27, the preschoolers presented the check to The Storehouse team and took a mini-tour of our food pantry. Special thanks to Pride Mersbach, Erin West, and all the St. Andrew Preschool teachers and students for helping us feed, clothe, and care for neighbors!
