#ICYMI, the St. Louis Integrated Health Network (IHN) has partnered with WashU to reduce health disparities in the St. Louis region. Dr. Diana Parra Perez from WashU Brown School co-leads an initiative that aims to improve the health and lives of residents in the St. Louis Promise Zone, which includes parts of North St. Louis City and North St. Louis County. Through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-funded Empowered Thriving Communities (ETC) cooperative, IHN and WashU support community-driven projects that help make healthy food choices easier; promote safe and accessible physical activity; and improve access to health behavior and lifestyle treatment programs. The ETC cooperative is co-led by Dr. Parra Perez and Brittany Jones from IHN. In 2025, the cooperative will award 7 mini grants of $7,000 each. Previously, the ETC cooperative awarded 7 mini grants averaging $6,000 each to the following local organizations: ? Rustic Roots Sanctuary ? Urban Harvest STL ? Ancient Healing Roots ? Phi Global Farms ? The Haven of Grace ? Wesley House STL ? A Red Circle Additionally, the ETC project recently integrated AI into its operations to make it easier for community members to access important health resources. The project has partnered with ThriveLink to help individuals sign up for programs like SNAP, WIC, and Medicaid on their phone. ?? We’re excited to partner with the Undiagnosed Diseases Network (UDN) at WashU to expand outreach to underserved communities! The Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis UDN Diagnostic Center of Excellence was established in 2019 to solve the trickiest medical mysteries in Missouri and nearby states. Now, the center is expanding, and through this partnership, we’ll help identify people in underserved communities with mysterious illnesses who could benefit from its advanced diagnostic services and connect them to care. “Our whole purpose is to help expand health-care access for people in underserved communities,” said Brittany Jones, IHN’s Assistant Director of Clinical and Community Integration, Racial Equity Initiatives. She highlights the importance of community engagement in addressing health disparities and ensuring equitable access to care, adding, “Our role is to bridge that gap so everyone can get the care that they need and deserve.” We look forward to the impact this collaboration will have on ensuring everyone with an undiagnosed condition receives the care they need, no matter their background.
