Today’s Women History Month highlight is Ertharin Cousin, a Chicago native and global leader dedicated to fighting hunger and malnutrition. As the twelfth executive director of the UN World Food Programme, Cousin has spent her career at the intersection of health and nutrition. ????? In 1997, she was appointed to the Board for International Food and Agricultural Development, shaping efforts to strengthen food systems worldwide. She also served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture from 2009 until 2012, advocating for policies that address global hunger. Today, we honor Dr. Linda Rae Murray, a longtime leader in public health and a fierce advocate for health equity. ?? Dr. Linda Rae Murray has spent her career advancing health equity, serving as chief medical officer for Cook County and leading public health initiatives in Chicago and beyond. A past president of the American Public Health Association, she has also contributed to national health equity efforts. Most recently, she co-chaired Mayor Brandon Johnson’s transition team on health and human services. As a longtime UIC faculty member, she continues to mentor future public health leaders. ?? ??
