Students representing nine high schools in the Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative (SSVEC) service territory were awarded all-expense paid trips to the nation’s capital at a dinner and ceremony Nov. 6 in Benson. The 42nd annual Washington Youth Tour is scheduled for June 2025. Students from throughout the SSVEC service territory participated in the competition which began in August. Finalists and their parents gathered in Benson for dinner and the awards ceremony. "It was another banner year for the youth tour," said Jason Bowling, Chief Executive Officer at SSVEC. "The quality and character of the students was again impressive, and this year we were able to provide this experience for all of those who qualified as finalists." “Investing in area youth for this educational experience is completely consistent with the mission of the SSVEC Foundation." The Washington Youth Tour is funded by the SSVEC Foundation. As a cooperative, SSVEC periodically returns money earned in excess of expenses to its members through Capital Credits. When members move out of the area and leave no forwarding address, SSVEC transfers the unclaimed funds to the SSVEC Foundation. Money provided by the Foundation also fund the annual Youth Engineering and Science (YES) Fair, the SSVEC Foundation Scholarship program, and a Micro-Grant and Educational Entity Grant program. Congratulations to all! ??
