“Wow!” “A most impressive execution” SSP Architects joined the owners, local dignitaries, and Mazda leaders from around the world to celebrate the opening of the US's largest Mazda dealership, designed by SSP. Those were the words of Tom Donnelly, President and CEO of Mazda North American Operations as he kicked off the celebration of the new dealership in Wayne, New Jersey. The building was designed with an elevated slab and timber piles due to the potential for flooding and presence of poor soils. In addition to its size, this particular location also boasts a unique 3-car lift for displays (other Mazda dealerships have 2-car lifts) and an air-conditioned 28-station service bay. This facility combines two aspects of Mazda’s values: A Challenger Spirit - prevailing against all odds - or as SSP puts it, being RESOLUTE and Omotenashi – a concept that Jeff Guyton, Mazda Global CFO, explained as going beyond bricks and mortar. It’s about creating experience and hospitality, which this new building does in a way that other dealerships don’t. This has been a wonderful project to work on with Middlesex County, NJ - County Government and Middlesex County Magnet Schools on the Middlesex College campus.
