SSM Health’s Women and Infant Substance Help (WISH) Center at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital — St. Louis has been honored with the Missouri Hospital Association’s Aim for Excellence Award. This award recognizes hospital innovation that improves patient outcomes. SSM Health’s WISH Center provides comprehensive, high-risk maternity care for pregnant individuals affected by substance use disorders. Patient care encompasses a full range of services, providing social and clinical services during pregnancy, birthing services through the hospital, and an AfterCare program for patients up to two years after childbirth. Between 2014 and 2023, the center served more than 3,000 women, and neonatal intensive care unit admission for children of WISH Center pregnancies dropped from 17.4 days to 6.9 days.

Mental health professionals and police officers are working together to bring much-needed resources to the region. Through a breakthrough partnership between the St. Louis County Police Department, St. Charles County Police, BJC Health System, Assisted Recovery Centers of America, LLC, Compass Health Network, and SSM Health, licensed professional counselors will now accompany police officers to help people in mental health crises. SSM Health and BJC Health System recently broke ground on a new regional laundry facility in the Soulard neighborhood, marking the official launch of St. Louis Healthcare Support Services. This facility will process 35 million pounds of linens for the health systems each year, using a newly refurbished warehouse owned by BJC HealthCare. In addition to providing essential services, the facility will stimulate economic development and create new jobs in under-resourced communities within St. Louis City. This initiative underscores SSM Health’s ongoing commitment to promoting equity and prosperity in our community.
