I had a great time talking about psychedelic research with Dr. Rick Barnett and Graham Moore at the NECANN conference in Boston! I also presented with Robert Rush and Kat Murti on our experiences with Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) in the battle with the DEA to protect the psychedelic research tools, DOI and DOC. Thanks so much to NECANN and Jack Gorsline for having me! It’s been wonderful to present, see old friends, and meet new ones in this space.

I will be speaking at NECANN with Kat Murti, Executive Director of Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) and Dr. Tanner Anderson, post doctoral Researcher at Yale University at 3:00 pm today on our fight to stop the DEA from adding DOI/DOC to Schedule I. Stop by and hear about the our hearing in November and the surreal experience of taking on the DEA.

“The move was celebrated by industry professionals and the nonprofit advocacy organization Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP)… ‘Correlation does not equal causation,’ said Robert Rush, an attorney representing SSDP, in a press release following the death of SB-076, ‘and there is no conclusive evidence that cannabis causes schizoaffective disorder or other severe mental health conditions.’”

On February 21-23, 2025 Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) hosted the “After the War Drug Summit” alongside Drug Policy Alliance and Reason Foundation. We gathered 20+ drug policy organizations together in D.C. to discuss policy reform in hopes of a unified bipartisan force to combat the Drug War during this new administration. On the first day each organization gave a presentation about the work that their org is doing, bills they are working on, and challenges they face. Then on Day 2, we got into the thick of our org’s values and mission, and despite having areas that we disagreed on, Day 3 we discussed what is possible for the future. The ATDW Summit proved that there is a true possibility that orgs from both sides of the aisle can collaborate and support each other’s work! In order to get any policy work done in the next four years, I truly believe that working together is our only way. Let’s focus on how we collectively want to save lives and that as a result we’ll build a coalition of compassionate care. This is just the start of what collaboration can look like, and we plan to push forward as united as possible to fight the War on Drugs. #bethechange #endthestigma #collaborationovercompetition #communitysupport #policyreform
