A TERRORIST ATTACK IN THE HEART OF THE CHICAGO JEWISH COMMUNITY - ON SIMCHAT TORAH On October 26 2024, during the Jewish Holiday of Simchat Torah- the same holiday that was being celebrated when the October 7th Hamas massacre in Israel took place, a man with no connection to the neighborhood or the victim shot a visibly Orthodox Jew in the back while walking to synagogue. When police and EMS showed up to treat the victim, the suspect jumped out of an alley yelled "Allahu Wakbahr" and engaged the police and EMS with a handgun resulting in a shootout that left the suspect in critical condition. This took place in heart of the Jewish community in Chicago- West Rogers Park, on a Jewish holiday. Here's what we know: 1) Authorities for 48 hours delayed releasing the "identity" of the victim, even though the community knew that it was a visibly Jewish man walking to synagogue for the holiday. 2) CPD delayed for 48 hours releasing the name, photo or background of the shooter, who is from Mauritania. LE sources said the suspect had been in the country only a short time (possibly a year) and may have crossed over the SW border illegally. 3) The Chicago Police Department and the JUF are all saying "There is no known, credible threat to the community, or that the suspect has ties to a wider network", even though the fact that this attack happened, immediately raises the threat level for potential copycat attacks. From a community security standpoint, this raises several questions: Question A: Why did the authorities delay releasing the identity of the victim- specifically that he was a member of a targeted religious community with a high threat landscape? Question B: Why did authorities delay releasing the identity of the offender, Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi from Mauritania, who was in custody? His identity and background is key to assessing the threat level for targeted community violence against Jews in Chicago and North America. Question C: If this is being investigated as a federal hate crime by the FBI and CPD, why has that not been announced? How is this not a hate crime? Did law enforcement search the offender's residence and internet activity looking for signs of radicalization or support for FTO's? Question D: Are all of the above observations indications of a political mitigation strategy, or part and parcel of an exhaustive law enforcement investigative process? Are the authorities taking into consideration the potential risk to the Jewish community for escalating violence and attacks? https://lnkd.in/gM_wKqKD
