This past week, we had the honor of welcoming university representatives for a Group Site Visit across our Seville, Alicante, and Barcelona locations! I am absolutely over the moon after returning from my first visit to Spain with SSA Education Abroad. After spending a week visiting our program sites in Seville, Barcelona, and Alicante, I am more confident than ever that SSA is one-of-a-kind. Of course, I already knew this, but this visit confirmed that SSA's commitment to academic excellence, community engagement, intercultural exchange, and student care is unparalleled. It was truly inspiring to see the magic for myself! Moreover, it was a joy to meet many of my colleagues after months of solely interacting through a screen!!! ?Nos vemos pronto! Definitely one of the fastest weeks of my life! I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to travel to Puerto Rico over spring break through Klein Global Opportunities's program The Art of Visual Storytelling. We spent an incredible week learning about the island's history and seeing some of the beautiful examples of visual art and media that San Juan and the surrounding areas had to offer! My multimedia project for this course will focus on motherhood and womanhood on the island, especially for those who were born and raised there, and I was able to speak to some amazing women about their personal connection to Puerto Rico and what the land means to them. I can't wait to see where the editing process takes me as I sort through all the audio and video I collected during our trip, and I'm beyond excited to share the finished project when I'm done. Over spring break, I had the incredible opportunity to visit Puerto Rico to learn about its history and culture while gathering content to create a storytelling project. While there, we explored Old San Juan, Loiza, and The Museum of Puerto Rico, took mural walks, hiked through El Yunque, and had the chance to talk to Puerto Ricans about their experience living on the island. Thank you to Klein Global Opportunities and SSA Education Abroad for making it possible for me to have this amazing experience! Over the next few weeks, I'll be compiling all of the pictures I took and quotes I gathered to create a zine about the survival of Puerto Rican culture in the face of gentrification. I'm excited to see how my project turns out and to see the projects from my incredibly talented classmates!
