In 1966, Brown invented the first closed-circuit television security system to see who was at her door when she heard knocking. Her groundbreaking system included visual monitoring, direct communication, and emergency alerts, paving the way for the modern security systems we depend on today. We can thank Thomas J. Martin for laying the groundwork for these life-saving devices. In 1872, Martin received a groundbreaking patent for the first fire extinguishing apparatus.
