Happy GIS Day! ??????? Yesterday the GIS Team at SRF Consulting Group hosted a GIS Day celebration for our Minneapolis office. It was a time to meet and greet with the GIS Team, ask GIS questions, and take a brain (and cookie) break to geek out over maps! We had fun with Esri’s great GIS activities, including map oragami, Mapman coloring books, and John Nelson globe ornaments- and the crowd favorite, Globie Yoga! SRF has over 120 active GIS users in addition to our core GIS staff. This event provided a great opportunity to explore new GIS tools and see how they can help with SRF’s projects—whether it’s for planning, design, or analysis. We’re always happy to share how we’re using GIS to solve problems, make better decisions, and improve our work!

Meet Kenneth Helvey, a dedicated SRF Consulting Group Land Agent. For the last 13 years he has been working alongside landowners along the FM Area Diversion project. Hear directly from Ken as he has been at the forefront of addressing challenges, building trust, and finding solutions.
For 13 years, Ken Helvey has made working with landowners impacted by the FM Area Diversion project his top priority. In the challenges he and the Lands Management team have encountered since then, some required a unique approach. One such challenge resulted in developing a one-of-a-kind program to help fill a gap left in the Uniformed Relocation Act that did not provide assistance to rebuild structures used for agricultural businesses and nonprofit organizations. Ken talks about how that program came to fruition and how it's working out. #mitigation #rural #floodprotection

Senior Project Manager - Transportation and Environmental Planning / Funding and Grants Manager
Congratulations to Greater Madison MPO, Dane County, City of Verona, City of Fitchburg - Wisconsin, Village of Shorewood Hills, and Village of Cottage Grove in securing $1 million in federal discretionary grant funding through the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program. This funding will assist the City of Fitchburg, the Village of Shorewood Hills, and Dane County in creating targeted safety action plans. Additionally, it will support the Village of Cottage Grove’s Active Transportation Plan and the City of Verona’s Safe Routes to School Plan—each a critical step towards making local roadways, sidewalks, and bike paths safer for all residents. Special thanks goes out to Alexandra Andros and Colleen Hoesly who orchestrated the overall plan and facilitated partnerships and participation to achieve a successful outcome. Now the work begins! The SRF Consulting Group Funding and Grants team was proud to assist with this application led by our amazing team of Nicole Bitzan, AICP, and Renae Kuehl, PE, PTOE.

SRF was thrilled to take part in last week's ribbon-cutting ceremony of MnDOT's Highway 169 Redefine project in Elk River. We celebrated the completion of this critical infrastructure construction project with project partners, community leaders, and key stakeholders. By converting the highway section to a freeway, the project greatly enhances the travel experience for motorists and pedestrians along the corridor. It was an honor to contribute our services to this important project.

Earlier this week, SRF project team members joined their partners from Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Kraemer North America, the Village of Lone Rock, Federal Highway Administration, and the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway Board for a ribbon-cutting celebration at the WIS 130 Lone Rock River Crossing. This project is especially notable as it is WisDOT’s first design-build project to enter construction under their Design-Build Pilot Program. Congratulations on the successful construction and reopening of this critical regional corridor and river crossing. SRF is proud to be part of such a significant and historic project.
