  • After more than five years of discussions, the SREC Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to end talks with the City of Spokane regarding its integration into the regional emergency communications model. This decision was not made lightly. SREC has provided extensive information, answered numerous questions, and worked tirelessly to create a collaborative solution. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, the City of Spokane has chosen to prioritize its own needs over regional collaboration, creating barriers to progress for the 20 other fire and law enforcement agencies currently served by SREC. At its January 16 meeting, the SREC Board approved a key motion: ?? Recommendation to the Spokane Board of County Commissioners to allow the City of Spokane to establish its own Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) by January 1, 2026. SREC remains committed to innovation, collaboration, and operational excellence as we continue serving the entire Spokane region. While we respect the City’s decision to take a different path, our focus remains on supporting our member agencies, achieving strategic goals, and ensuring the best possible public safety outcomes for the community. We are proud of the work we’ve accomplished together and look forward to continuing to serve Spokane County with dedication. ?? Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gdDbp2Wr

  • We are so proud to have made the cover of APCO International's Public Safety Communications magazine. The story highlights the work SREC's GIS, Fire Dispatch, and IT did on our alerts process and interactive evacuation map. It’s a compelling story about true teamwork and one of the many benefits created by regionalization. We are fortunate to have so much talent within these walls.

  • We were thrilled to welcome NICE Public Safety & Justice and Motorola Solutions to our center today to award Janet Hawkins the Lifetime Achievement Award for her 33+ year career and the Innovator of the Year Award for his work on technical interfaces that help save valuable time during the emergency alert process. Janet’s longevity in public safety is a true testament to her strength, resilience, and perseverance. As a Law Dispatch Supervisor, her knowledge and skills are unmatched and her contributions to the training of current and future dispatchers has been invaluable. While Janet retired earlier this year, we are so fortunate that she continues pick up shifts part-time, continuing to share her wisdom and talent with our organization. Congratulations Janet on all you have done! Joe made sure to call out that his award was truly a team award, as the work that was accomplished was implemented by Fire Dispatch Supervisor Cassidy, GIS Analyst Ryan, and IT Sr Systems Specialist Rob. By interfacing with those closest to the work, the technical team identified some improvements they could make to a manual alerting process that could often take 10-15 minutes. The team's work reduced this to just 3-5 minutes--time that is crucial in an emergency. Joe's philosophy is that by listening, observing, and collaborating with front line staff, you can identify opportunities to improve process. He recognizes this is one of the many benefits achieved by regionalization, as it brought these teams together under one roof. Thank you Joe and Team for your amazing work! It is such an honor to recognized nationally for these achievements. We are so proud to work alongside such incredible employees on the daily! #SREC911 #alwayshereforyou #soproud #honored
