A year ago, today, Dragon was brought to SR3 for care after she was found malnourished and lethargic in Seattle. Fast forward a year, and she’s now had THREE resights in the wild after her two months of rehabilitation and return to the ocean. Last week, the folks at Vigor Shipyard sent us more photos of Dragon as a healthy harbor seal. They first caught sight of her in October, and then again in January. Dragon now holds the record for the seal who’s been spotted the most in the wild after her release! ??: 1) Dragon’s first day in care on March 19th, 2024. 2) Dragon’s third resight in the wild post release, on March 11th, 2025.

Where has Naga the harbor seal been over the past month? After getting released in central Hood Canal in January, she swam south, explored Hoodsport and Union, and then went north! After a jaunt into Admiralty Inlet, she returned to Hood Canal. Stay tuned for more updates as she continues to explore her ocean home. #HarborSeal #Seals #MarineMammalRescue #PugetSound

The SR3 team has been busy collecting valuable winter data on the health of killer whales in the Salish Sea, and is currently in Antarctica where they will continue SR3’s long-term research on the health of whales in the rapidly changing ecosystem of the Antarctic Peninsula.
