Square One, formerly the Springfield Day Nursery, has been providing early education and child care support to working families in Western Massachusetts for more than 132 years. Today, we provide a wide range of services to children and families, but we remain grounded in our commitment to providing affordable, learning focused child care for infants, toddlers and preschoolers in a safe, stable and secure environment. We are guided by research showing that children who begin learning early become better learners for life. Kids who get off to a good start are better equipped to become successful and happy as adults. They become more productive and more likely to make a positive contribution to their community. Moreover, they become better equipped to provide expanded opportunities to their own children. At Square One, our role is to help build the foundations for both better lives and a better community. Founded in 1883 to provide care for children of working parents, we have evolved and expanded over the years. Our programs include both center and home based childcare as well as Parenting Works, a program that provides parent education, support and training through groups, home visitation and case management. Programs at our centers vary depending on the age and development of enrolled children, but always focus on providing opportunities for children to grow strong cognitively, emotionally, socially and physically.

Friday, our children and staff had a blast celebrating Pi "e" Day! Our Square One children participated in a variety of Pi-related activities, including a reading of Dr. Seuss's "Happy Pi Day to You!", pie tastings, fraction games, and even a pie voting activity. Thank you to our friends Table Talk Pies, LLC., A Rise Baking Company for your kindness, generosity, and your many tasty pies! We are so grateful for your continued support of our Square One children and families.

What a heartwarming day we had yesterday at Square One! Our preschoolers had the most delightful time adopting their very own stuffed puppies, thanks to our amazing friends Crystal Vazquez and Christopher Martin. This special event was organized by Crystal in loving memory of her grandmother, honoring her with an unforgettable experience for our little ones. The children not only got to adopt their new furry friends, but they also had the chance to decorate their puppy’s box and even name their new friend! A huge thank you to Crystal and Chris for making this day so special! Thank you for supporting our Square One children and families. #SquareOne

Square One was proud to show our support for Ride to Remember Springfield, Massachusetts at the 3rd Annual INSIDE Ride. Thank you to everyone who turned out to support this amazing cause! Special thanks to the YMCA of Greater Springfield for hosting and Frankie & Johnnie's Pizza for donating all the food to keep our riders fueled! Also, kudos to the Square One staff and Board members who participated as riders and as volunteers. Ride to Remember is an annual outdoor cycling event that honors our region's first responders and remembers those who have lost their lives in the line of duty, by raising awareness and money to support community projects and organizations that make our community safer places to live, work and play. Square One and many other community organizations have benefited from the generosity of R2R.

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming an amazing group of volunteers from the LEGO Group for a morning of play in celebration of Black History Month. The children had a wonderful time listening to stories and building fun creations with our friends from the LEGO Group. After the inspiring stories and building activities, the team from the LEGO Group generously gifted each room with HUGE containers of bricks and books! Thank you, the LEGO Group, for your support of our Square One children and families!
