?? Know Your Rights: NDAs in Illinois ?? Not all Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) are enforceable! ?? In Illinois, employers cannot use NDAs to: ? Cover up sexual harassment, discrimination, or retaliation (Workplace Transparency Act). ? Silence whistleblowers from reporting illegal activity. ? Prevent employees from discussing wages or workplace conditions. ? NDAs must have reasonable geographic & time limits if they cover general confidential info (not trade secrets). This Women's History Month, we're highlighting @LiftOurVoices, a nonprofit founded by @GretchenCarlson and @JulieRoginsky, dedicated to ending silencing mechanisms in the workplace. They’ve been instrumental in passing federal laws like the Ending Forced Arbitration of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment Act and the Speak Out Act, empowering survivors to share their stories without fear. Resources available at LiftOurVoices.org: Survivors Resources: Find legal assistance, mental health services, and support networks. State-by-State NDA Laws: Understand your rights based on your location. Twelve-Point Plan: A guide for those experiencing workplace misconduct. Empower yourself with knowledge and stand up against workplace injustice. Not all employees can be bound by a non-compete or non-solicitation agreement under state law. If you’re a business owner or employee, it’s important to ensure these contracts are valid and enforceable. ?? Need to review your agreements for compliance? We’ve got you! ?? ?? Did you know? After the Civil War, formerly enslaved Black Americans were promised land to build new lives—but that promise was broken. In 1865, Union General William T. Sherman issued Special Field Order No. 15, setting aside land for freed Black families. This was the origin of the phrase "40 acres and a mule." But just months later, President Andrew Johnson reversed the order, returning the land to former Confederate owners. ?? The fight for reparations and racial justice continues today. Swipe through for a quick history lesson. #BlackHistoryMonth #40AcresAndAMule #Reparations #RacialJustice #KnowYourHistory #BlackHistory #LegalHistory

Racially Restrictive Housing Covenants ?? Scroll through to see how laws were ignored and side-stepped by housing covenants and property owners to informally continue segregation. In Shelley v. Kraemer (1948), the Supreme Court ruled that courts couldn’t enforce racially restrictive housing covenants—but that didn’t stop segregation. Many neighborhoods continued using these covenants informally, and banks, realtors, and local governments found new ways to keep Black families out. It wasn’t until the Fair Housing Act of 1968, twenty years later, that racial discrimination in housing was officially outlawed, though not erased. Today, the effects of these policies still linger in homeownership disparities and wealth inequality. IIf you or someone you know has faced housing discrimination, you can report it to the Illinois Department of Human Rights or HUD.
