?? Lessons from a Year of Focused Sales Skill Building I've worked a number of sales jobs in my life from personal training to cold calling. But over the past year, I’ve learned sales from a different frame; like sharpening a tool. I now spot sales tactics everywhere. Whether it’s cold calls, chats with friends, or dare I say, even conversations with loved ones, the skillset is omnipresent. But here’s the interesting part: it’s not about manipulation or just getting what you want. It’s about listening and—here’s the part people miss—being prepared and general awareness. ?? Here’s my thoughts -- Want a job? Sending, “Hi, here’s my resume. Love your company,” isn’t enough. Want advice? If there’s a big gap in experience, YOU need to bring overwhelming value to the table to even getting a response considered. Following up with “Just checking in,".... If you want someone’s attention, research, show value, and treat them like the busiest person alive. Sales isn’t limited to a role or title—it’s about earning trust, delivering value, and standing out in a sea of “lazy” outreach. I've had some great conversations with sales execs on how the best people should reach out, and firsthand examples I've seen...let me know if its worth sharing. What have you seen that works?

The Secret to Creating a Premium Gym That Stays Functional? It’s not just about aesthetics or high-end materials. It’s about talent in capital allocation. A gym can look expensive but perform terribly. Too much budget on finishes, not enough on functionality. Too much space wasted on underutilized features, not enough on flow and efficiency. True premium design isn’t about spending more—it’s about spending smart. Knowing where to invest in impact and where to cut the fluff. At SPX, we obsess over this balance. Because the best gyms aren’t just beautiful; they work better, feel better, and last longer.

Installs: A Love/Hate Relationship Let’s be honest—installs rarely go smoothly. Construction delays, storage issues, missing items, last-minute changes... you name it. The process? It’s a marathon: - Unloading trucks - Navigating freight elevators - Helping installers piece equipment together - Testing and ensuring safety - Checking delivery against the equipment list - Creating punch lists - Contacting vendors I'm sure theres more, it’s an endless checklist. And I love it. It breaks up the routine. Amid all the moving parts, I’ll schedule sales calls and use the install as a 'mobile showroom'. I show potential clients what their space could look like—highlighting customizations, layout, user experience, and how we handle the install. (clearly seeing why they might not want to. ha.)

Is there anything worse than a great gym with a bad locker room? How do you decide on locker room square footage? The number of lockers? Showers? What about the flow, layout, privacy, and dispersion? These are permanent decisions for most operators and developers, yet they’re often made by guessing or cutting corners. At SPX, we leverage nearly a decade of experience to conceptualize locker room layouts that maximize square footage, functionality, and the overall experience for members. Because let’s face it—a poorly designed locker room can ruin even the best gym. ?? How do you approach locker room design? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
